Jeff Golub Fund

Guitar great Jeff Golub was no stranger to any musical genre. Laying claim to jazz, smooth jazz, blues, rock and even country-tinged projects, Jeff was a fan favorite on sailings of The Smooth Jazz Cruise and also highly coveted by the likes of Tina Turner, Peter Wolf, John Waite, Vanessa Williams, Gato Barbieri and Bill Evans. After eight years playing lead guitar for Rod Stewart and three world tours and seven albums with '80s arena-rock star Billy Squier, Jeff ventured out solo and released more than a dozen albums. Artists who eagerly collaborated with him over the years included Gerald Albright, Henry Butler, Rick Braun, Jon Cleary, Marc Cohn, Richard Elliot, Robben Ford, Sonny Landreth, Jeff Lorber, Kirk Whalum and Peter White. After inexplicably losing his sight in 2011, Jeff adapted to his new way of life by using a guide dog, mastering a speech-to-text app for his computer and learning Braille – all the while, continuing to write, record and perform his music. He remained a headliner on our cruises as often as he was able. But in 2013, Jeff was diagnosed with the aggressive and untreatable disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, which affected his speech, appearance, mannerisms, movement and thought processes. Sadly for us and the music world as a whole, the Artist lost his battle with this rare condition earlier this year.

In honor of the beloved musician who he was fortunate enough to also call “friend,” Entertainment Cruise Productions Executive Director Michael Lazaroff has established the Matthew and Christopher Golub College Fund and raised more than $35,000 for Jeff’s two sons through silent auctions on The Smooth Jazz Cruise 15.1 and 15.2. With the end goal of raising $100,000, ECP will continue working with the music community in support of Jeff’s greatest legacy, his children.
